Celebrate Earth Day with the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and the Coos Watershed Association on Saturday, April 25 from 10AM to 12PM at BLM’s 80-Acre Parcel on Trans Pacific Parkway. We will be removing Scotch broom and European beach grass. The Scotch broom is relatively small, so this will be a good family event!
We will be working on a moderate, sandy slope about 1/10 of a mile from the road. Bring closed-toe shoes, work gloves, water, and snacks. Please bring shovels or loppers if you have them. If you don’t, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. The Scotch broom plants are generally small, so this will be a good opportunity for families to work together helping out the Oregon dunes!
Dress for the weather! If it is sunny or misting, we will be working, if it is a storm, we will cancel. We will make the best call that we can by Friday afternoon, the 24th. Directions: From North Bend, Oregon, take Hwy 101 north, passing over the McCullough Memorial Bridge. Turn left onto Trans Pacific Parkway and go approximately 1.75 miles (you will go past both Horsfall Beach Rd. and Jordan Cove Rd.) There is a turnout on the south side of the road next to the railroad tracks where you can park. If that area fills up, there is a smaller turnout on the north side of the road. The shoulder of the road is wide in this area, so there is additional parking on the shoulder if the turnouts fill up.
